The World Boxing Union (WBU) is planning a national league format for stand-up boxing disciplines – but a date for the kick-off event is still open. BOXSPORT explains the concept.

The label shines: Boxing Bundesliga. And deceptive at the same time. Because only recently, the German Boxing Association(DBV) canceled the new season – too few teams, too little space in the calendar. A cancellation with an announcement. In previous years, the league consisted of just three or four clubs. A miniature format, almost a caricature of a national league.
Now a new attempt is being made. Not from the Olympic DBV, but from a smaller professional world association: the World Boxing Union(WBU), based in Coppenbrügge in the district of Hameln-Pyrmont in Lower Saxony. President Torsten Knille is the idea generator and driving force. However, the DBV decision has not influenced his considerations, he emphasizes in an interview with BOXSPORT. He does not want to “take anything away from anyone”.
Unique concept
Years ago, Knille was already working on a concept for a league operation. Organizational planning games were worked out, thought through, filed away in the back of his mind and in the drawer at home – but never lost sight of, always ready to hand.
