Former two-weight world champion Danny Garcia has ended his glittering career in impressive style. At the Barclays Center Arena in Brooklyn, New York, the US-American stopped his opponent Daniel Gonzalez with a perfect left hook in the fourth round – just 45 seconds into the round.

Garcia, who now has a record of 38 wins (22 knockouts) and 4 defeats, ended the duel under the motto “Farewell to Brooklyn ” – his official last appearance as a professional. Nevertheless, the 37-year-old left a small loophole open: “I’m 85 percent retired,” explained Garcia after the fight, hinting that a financially lucrative mega-fight could possibly lure him back into the ring.

The fight took place at super welterweight – a weight class in which Garcia had previously fought Jose Benavidez Jr. and Erislandy Lara. During his illustrious career, Garcia secured world titles in the WBC super lightweight and welterweight divisions.

Garcia celebrated his first major triumph in 2012 when he defeated Erik Morales on points to win the vacant WBC super lightweight title. He went on to successfully defend his belt against top names such as Amir Khan, Zab Judah and Lucas Martin Matthysse.

Four years later, Garcia was crowned once again – this time in the welterweight division. With a unanimous points victory over Robert Guerrero, he became two-weight world champion and finally cemented his place among the best technicians and counter-punchers of his generation. With his knockout victory over Gonzalez, Danny “Swift” Garcia leaves the ring – for the time being – with a final bang.
