Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete, the WBO super featherweight champion, will defend his title against Charly Suarez on May 10 at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego. The main fight of the evening will be complemented by a co-main event between Zaur Abdullaev and Raymond Muratalla.

Charly Suarez with an unblemished record

Charly Suarez, who has a record of 18 wins (10 of them by knockout) and no defeats, will get his first world championship opportunity. The now 36-year-old Filipino took part in the Olympic Games. In Rio de Janeiro, however, he was eliminated after a narrow defeat to Joe Cordina. Suarez has not been able to celebrate any major successes in his six-year professional career. He last defeated the US American Jorge Castaneda on September 20, 2024 in Glendale, Arizona. (Highlights in the video)

Emanuel Navarrete back in top form

Emanuel Navarrete seems to be back in top form after tough fights against Robson Conceicao and Denys Berinchyk. The 29-year-old Mexican impressively dominated the rematch against Oscar Valdez . With a record of 39 2-1, 32 knockouts, Navarrete is one of the most spectacular fighters in the limit.

Title defense as a springboard for Emanuel Navarrete

Assuming a win against Suarez, Navarrete will have interesting options. These include, for example, unification fights against O’Shaquie Foster or the winner of the duel between Angelo Leo and Tomoki Kameda. There are also persistent rumors of a fight against his Mexican compatriot Rafael Espinoza. The reigning WBO champ could move up a class to fight his fellow Top Rank contender Navarrete. “It would be a huge Mexican fight,” boxingscene.com quotes Top Rank boss, Bob Arum.

San Diego as stage for top-class boxing evening

The event on May 10 in San Diego promises to be a top-class evening of boxing. In addition to the main fight with Emanuel Navarrete, spectators can also look forward to the co-main fight between Zaur Abdullaev and Raymond Muratalla. This evening offers several highlights for fans of technically demanding boxing.

Opportunities for Emanuel Navarrete and his challenger

Navarrete goes into the fight as the favorite, while Suarez has nothing to lose. The Filipino has been waiting a long time for his chance. Most recently, both Andres Cortes and Henry Lebron had canceled planned fights against him. Nevertheless, the WBO decided to give the 36-year-old a direct shot at the title.
