The Berlin stable AGON Sports is organizing a global and historic professional boxing spectacle in Havana on April 11. Double Olympic champion Arlen Lopez, Julio Cesar La Cruz and other top fighters from Cuba will step into the ring.

AGON Sports makes boxing history again! On April 11, the first professional boxing event in Cuba for over 60 years will take place at the 5-star “Melia Internacional” hotel in Varadero. At this historic event, Arlen Lopez (3-0, 2 knockouts) will face off in a high-class fight. The Cuban double Olympic champion will fight for the “WBA Continental Latin America” title against Argentinian Martin Ezequiel Bulacio (14-8, 10 knockouts). Bulacio recently made headlines with an impressive victory over Serhat Güler and is considered a serious challenger for Lopez.
Lopez in WBA title fight against Bulacio
In addition to light heavyweight Lopez, four other WBA title fights will take place, in which three other Cuban boxers that AGON was only recently able to sign will demonstrate their skills. With this historic event, AGON Sports is not only bringing professional boxing back to Cuba, but also creating a platform for talented athletes to finally compete as professionals in front of their home crowd.
With Julio Cesar La Cruz, Erislandy Alvarez and Lazaro Alvarez, highly decorated Cuban boxing heroes will also step into the ring in Varadero. In addition, Moussa Gholam (22-1, 13 knockouts), who joined the AGON boxing stable a few weeks ago and is a world-class boxer, will make his debut for Ingo Volckmann’s German promotion.

Another sign of the historic importance of this event is the presence of Gilberto Mendoza. The WBA President will personally travel to Cuba to attend this special occasion. The world’s oldest boxing organization is thus paying tribute to the return of professional boxing to the Caribbean state.
Volckmann: “It is a great honor for us”
AGON Sports promoter Ingo Volckmann is delighted with the historic dimension of the event. “We are particularly pleased and honored that WBA President Gilberto Mendoza is personally attending this event. The WBA is the oldest and one of the most respected boxing associations in the world, and we will be staging five top-class WBA title fights on this evening.”
“This is a monumental moment – not just for AGON Sports, but for Cuban boxing as a whole. For the first time in over six decades, Cuba is experiencing professional boxing on home soil. We are extremely grateful to the Cuban government for their trust and support. Our goal with this event is to usher in a new era and give the talented Cuban boxers the platform they deserve.”
With five WBA title fights, an internationally scheduled live broadcast and the support of the WBA, this event promises to write an unforgettable chapter in the history of Cuban boxing.
