Eubank vs. Benn: Last jibes before the fight

Emotion, provocation, family drama: the final press conference between Eubank Jr. and Benn gives you goosebumps and makes clear statements.

The tension is rising! Shortly before the eagerly anticipated clash between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, both fighters were anything but reserved at the final press conference. It was the last verbal exchange before the big bang and it was a tough one.

Eubank Jr, now an experienced professional in the ring and on the microphone, once again used the stage to provoke his opponent. With his usual calculated calm, he accused Benn of avoiding the pressure in the UK and preparing for the fight in Spain: “The boy fled because he couldn’t look people in the eye here. He knows what to expect.”

“My fists will speak on Saturday”

Benn, who has been much calmer in recent weeks than when he was originally appointed in 2022, initially refused to be lured out of his reserve. “I am ready. I’ve focused on what matters: the fight. My fists will speak on Saturday,” he explained. Only to hit Eubank’s nerves shortly afterwards: “You’d better watch your weight, fat boy.” The counterattack came promptly and mercilessly from Eubank Jr: “You’ll be back at school on Saturday. I’m the principal – and you have detention.”

There were also emotional moments away from the verbal battles. Eubank spoke openly about the death of his brother, the strained relationship with his father and what pain really means to him: “When your little nephew asks why his father is no longer there – that’s pain. Gaining weight is nothing in comparison.”

Benn’s coach Tony Sims, meanwhile, was convinced of his protégé’s condition: “Conor has undergone a transformation in the last two years. What he showed in the training camp was on a new level.” Promoter Eddie Hearn stayed in the background this time – the verbal barrage from Eubank was too loud. Nevertheless, it should be clear: When two sons of legendary rivals face each other in the ring on Saturday evening, it’s not just about winning. It’s about history and a lot of pride!
