Frank Warren criticizes BBC and Boxxer

Queensberry boss Frank Warren rages about TV date crash with Boxxer and BBC: “Disrespectful towards boxing!”

Promoter legend Frank Warren has sharply criticized Boxxer and the BBC for holding their first joint boxing event on the same night as the heavyweight clash between Fabio Wardley and Joseph Parker. Both fights will take place on October 25 – Boxxer will show the British title fight between Frazer Clarke and Jeamie TKV live on BBC Two, while Wardley vs. Parker will be shown in primetime on DAZN.

Warren, whose Queensberry Promotions is promoting Wardley against Parker, speaks of a “disrespectful” approach: “You would never do that with soccer or rugby,” the Briton told The Ring . “It just shows how little respect there is for boxing – and for the fans.”

The fact that the BBC is returning to professional boxing with Boxxer is, in principle, pleasing. “But if you really want to return to the sport, you work with the sport, not against it,” Warren continued. “They had 48 weekends to choose from – and then they pick this of all dates?”

Despite being annoyed about the overlap, Warren is convinced that his event is the more important one in sporting terms: “Wardley knocked out Clarke – our fight is for the interim title. The winner will be boxed by Usyk or become world champion. That’s the more important show.”
