American heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller defeated Lenier Pero by unanimous decision on points last night at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.

Miller (28-1-2, 22 knockouts) celebrated his second win in a row, while Pero (13-1, 8 knockouts) suffered the first defeat of his career in the Matchroom Boxing event, which was broadcast live on DAZN. The judges scored the fight 115-113 and twice 117-111 in favor of Miller.

In the opening rounds, Pero dominated the action in the ring with his boxing skills and clean jab. However, Miller’s physical presence, size and weight advantage became increasingly noticeable. From the fifth round onwards, the US American put the Cuban under massive pressure, pushing him to the ropes and landing hard shots to the head and body.

Miller remained true to his tactic of continuously driving Pero in front of him (“walking down”) and celebrated great successes in rounds eight and ten in particular. He repeatedly put his opponent in the corner and landed heavy power punches. Both heavyweights engaged in an intense exchange of blows until the final bell and showed great sportsmanship afterwards with a hug.

On the undercard, Alan Chaves produced a spectacular finish with an early victory in the third round against Miguel Madueno. Chaves (22-0, 19 knockouts) sent his opponent crashing to the floor with a powerful left hook, ending the fight immediately. The official time of the knockout was 1:26. The Argentinian southpaw also successfully defended his WBO Latino lightweight title.
