Kim Clavel (22-2, 3 knockouts) made boxing history again last night at the Théâtre St-Denis in Montreal: The Canadian secured the IBF minimumweight world title with a disciplined performance against the previously unbeaten Argentinian Sol Cudos (10-1, 3 knockouts). Clavel is now a two-time world champion in different weight classes, having already won the WBC semi-flyweight title in July 2022 with a unanimous points victory over Yesenia Gomez. The judges scored the fight clearly in Clavel’s favor: 99-91, 99-91 and 98-92. The 33-year-old celebrated her second world championship triumph in front of her home crowd.

Cudos, who entered the ring as defending champion and for the first time outside Argentina, was only able to play to her physical strength and aggression in phases. Clavel controlled the pace right from the start with fast hands and precise combinations. A cut over her left eye in the opening rounds hardly seemed to bother the Canadian. She remained calm, consistently implemented her game plan and finally took control in the middle rounds. “I had to stay calm, stick to my plan and let my skills do the talking,” said Clavel in the DAZN interview after the fight. “This is just the beginning.”
