Lennox Lewis warns Itauma about Usyk fight

“It’s still too early!” Lennox Lewis sees Moses Itauma as a coming superstar, but warns against a premature duel with Usyk.

Boxing legend Lennox Lewis has called on Moses Itauma to show patience and not reach for the world championship belts too soon – especially not against Oleksandr Usyk. Itauma (13-0, 11 knockouts) is regarded as the upcoming heavyweight superstar and is already ranked No. 1 in the WBA and WBO rankings after his first-round knockout of Dillian Whyte. Nevertheless, Lewis warns: “It’s still far too early,” the former Undisputed champion told British TV channel Sky Sports.

“Usyk won’t be boxing forever. Wait until he retires – then you can strike. If you push a fighter too early, it can seriously damage his career. It’s better if Moses is still learning and developing.” Lewis, who celebrated his 60th birthday this week, is currently enjoying his life in Florida – including a diving course. However, he has been advised against skydiving because of his weight.
