Paris! Olympics! These games are the first I’ve seen live. Tickets bought, accommodation arranged and off I went! Haaalt! It wasn’t that easy.

I took part in a lottery for the tickets, in which time slots were drawn rather than the coveted tickets. I won one and was given the favor of buying tickets before anyone else in the times allotted to me. Rugby sevens once, weightlifting twice and boxing five times with two tickets each for €2900. Cheap is different. Oh well, the boxing finals were not all bookable. No matter, because how many times will I be at the Olympics and maybe these will be the last games for two of the oldest sports in the world: boxing and weightlifting? I didn’t book my accommodation in Paris, but in Reims, 140 km away. Knowing that the Parisians are expecting over 15 million visitors to their games, Reims, combined with commuting, seemed the best solution.
August 27 – Today’s program was not boxing, but rugby sevens.
Rulebook? Not from me. I have no idea how the sport works, but it’s fast-paced and great to watch. France are the Olympic champions! First, they shaved South Africa 19:5 in the semi-finals and then they surprisingly dethroned Fiji 28:7. It was Fiji’s first defeat at the Olympic Games. For me, the Arc de Triomphe is on the program tomorrow and for Maxi Klötzer and Magomed Schachidov their Olympic debut. Let’s go champs, fight and win!
