Maxi Klötzer is “Amateur Boxer of the Year 2024”!

A year of ups and downs lies behind Maxi Klötzer. But in the race for the title of “Amateur Boxer of the Year”, the Chemnitz native clearly outshone the competition.

Maxi Klötzer was the first member of the DBV squad to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris. However, it was unfortunate that the 24-year-old semi-flyweight was knocked outin the first round against multiple world champion Nikhat Zareen. On the other hand, Klötzer achieved another triumph last calendar year: she was named Germany’s “Amateur Boxer of the Year”.

Olympic participant against national champions, was the motto of the BOXSPORT 2024 vote: Klötzer was up against two German champions in the vote – Irina Schönberger and Canan Tas. While the distribution of votes in the community, especially between Klötzer and Schönberger, was still relatively even, the jury saw the Olympian clearly ahead. Irina Schönberger, the experienced middleweight from the Heidelberg Olympic Training Center, came second in the final ranking. Canan Tas, German featherweight champion and Olympic qualifier, received fewer votes than her rivals from both readers and experts. Nevertheless, the Cottbus native, who only started boxing in 2019, can chalk up her third place in the voting as a success.

The result:

  1. Maxi Klötzer
    442 points
  2. Irina Schönberger
    114 points
  3. Canan Tas
    44 points
