Mayweather-Pacquiao: Mega rematch in September

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao II is scheduled to take place on September 26 and will be broadcast live on Netflix. The MGM Grand in Las Vegas is the favored venue.

The rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao continues to take shape – but with a new date. According to reports, the second edition of what was once the most lucrative fight in boxing history will now take place on Netflix on September 26. Originally, September 19 was under discussion, but this date is apparently off the table. The initially discussed staging at the Sphere in Las Vegas also no longer seems to be on the table. Instead, the MGM Grand is considered a likely venue – exactly where Mayweather won the first fight against Pacquiao unanimously on points in 2015.

Exciting: Contrary to what was sometimes assumed, this is not supposed to be a pure exhibition. Both camps are said to have agreed to hold the fight as an official professional bout. Mayweather is now 49 years old, Pacquiao 47, so the sporting appeal remains controversial, but the duel is likely to generate enormous commercial attention once again. For Netflix, it would be another big step into the boxing market.
