Shortly before his scheduled show fight against Jake Paul on November 14, Gervonta “Tank” Davis is in legal trouble again. As ESPN reports, a civil lawsuit has been filed in Miami-Dade County against the WBA lightweight world champion for assault, false imprisonment and mental cruelty.

The lawsuit comes from his ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel, who accuses Davis of assaulting, threatening and imprisoning her on several occasions. According to the indictment, Davis allegedly forced his way into a Miami nightclub where Rossel was working as a waitress earlier this week. In an unmonitored room, he allegedly attacked her, dragged her through the back exit and then beat her in the parking lot.

Rossel claims to have been in a relationship with Davis for five months and speaks of several previous acts of violence. In at least four cases, the boxer physically abused her and twice even threatened her with death. The plaintiff’s lawyers are demanding compensation and a jury trial. Davis, who has had several run-ins with the law in the past – including for hit-and-run and domestic violence – has not yet commented on the allegations. It is currently unclear whether the lawsuit will have any impact on the planned fight against Jake Paul in Miami. Paul’s promoter company Most Valuable Promotions had no comment on the matter.
