In the co-main event of the heavyweight showdown between Moses Itauma and Dillian Whyte, WBA featherweight world champion Nick Ball (23-0-1, 13 knockouts) defended his title with a hard-fought unanimous points victory over Australian Sam Goodman (20-1, 8 knockouts). The judges scored the fight 115-113, 118-110 and 117-111 in favor of the unbeaten Brit.

“I’m still world champion, but it certainly wasn’t my best performance. The most important thing is that we got the job done,” said Ball in the DAZN interview after the fight. “I took too many hits, even though most of them landed on the gloves. I’ll watch the fight again. I want to keep fighting, improve and fight the big names in more title fights.”

The situation at featherweight

The featherweight class is currently divided between four world champions:

  • Nick Ball (WBA)
  • Angelo Leo (IBF)
  • Stephen Fulton (WBC)
  • Rafael Espinosa (WBO)

This means that the division remains top-class and continues to provide fans with exciting options for unification fights.

Reactions from the environment

Promoter Turki Alalshikh commented on the fight via social media: “I thought Sam Goodman put in a fantastic performance. He showed a lot of skill and the rounds were close. I would love to see him more often at upcoming Riyadh Season and Ring Magazine events.”
