Doping shock in the heavyweight division: Lawrence Okolie tests positive – the fight against Tony Yoka is about to be canceled at short notice.

A serious setback for Lawrence Okolie: According to DAZN, the former world champion has tested positive for doping. This means that the planned main event against Tony Yoka in Paris at the weekend is in serious doubt.
Queensberry Promotions had previously confirmed a conspicuous test result. It is now clear that the sample was indeed positive. Which substance was detected and what the consequences will be is still unclear. A final decision on the organization of the event is still pending.
Okolie himself commented via social media and referred to medical treatment following renewed problems with his left arm. A bicep injury had already set him back last year. He emphasized that he was working with the authorities and wanted to fully clarify the situation.
In sporting terms, the duel with Yoka would have been an important yardstick. Both heavyweights had recently bounced back with knockout victories and wanted to position themselves among the world’s best in a direct comparison. Okolie is currently ranked high in the WBC rankings – behind champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Should the main event be canceled, a WBC super welterweight eliminator between Bakary Samake and Ermal Hadribeaj could come into focus. An official decision is expected soon.
