Undefeated, focused, and hungry for the title: Etinosa Oliha aims to be crowned IBF world champion in Dublin against Aaron McKenna.
Just a few days left until Etinosa Oliha faces the most important fight of his career so far. This coming Saturday, August 8, the undefeated AGON boxer (22-0, 10 KOs) will face off against the equally undefeated local hero Aaron McKenna (20-0, 10 KOs) at the 3Arena in Dublin, which can hold up to 14,500 spectators. At stake is the vacant IBF middleweight world title. The fight card is being organized by Zuffa Boxing.
At AGON Sports, the final preparations for the competition went according to plan. Oliha has just completed an intensive training camp with top-tier sparring partners who pushed the World Championship contender to his limits. “Etinosa is in excellent shape. We prepared with very good sparring partners who really pushed him to his limits. That’s exactly the kind of training you need before a world championship fight. The workload was enormous, so he’s now getting the rest he needs to be in peak condition on fight day,” says AGON promoter Ingo Volckmann.
However, there’s something else that’s far more important than sparring. Volckmann sees Oliha’s mental strength as the decisive factor. “There are boxers who shine in sparring but not in the ring. With Etinosa, it’s more the other way around. He’s a fighter. As soon as you talk to him about this world championship bout, you immediately see the fire in his eyes. He has only one goal left—to win this title. In the end, that sheer determination will be more important than any technical finesse.”
AGON CEO Volckmann expects “a real battle”
The AGON pro faces a tough challenge in Aaron McKenna. The Irishman is considered a technically skilled and agile boxer and will be able to count on the support of his fans in front of a home crowd. “McKenna is a really good boxer. He’s technically strong, agile, and will push us to our limits. That’s why I’m expecting a real battle. But fights like this are exactly what Etinosa thrives on. I firmly believe that his unwavering will to win will make the difference in the end.”
For AGON Sports, a World Championship victory would be the next milestone in a long line of successful world title fights. Having already produced several world champions, the Berlin-based boxing stable could now turn the page to the next chapter with Oliha. “We’ve organized many world championship bouts in recent years, and more top boxers are on the verge of competing. The fact that Etinosa can now fight for the IBF world title is something special for our gym. He fights for AGON Sports and wears our colors. Of course, we hope that he’ll leave the ring on Saturday as the new world champion and continue to fly the AGON flag high.”
