To mark the show fight against Stefan Raab, ARD has produced a TV documentary about Regina Halmich. “Back to the Roots” will be available in the ARD media library from September 12.
Regina Halmich is the queen in the ring. She has only lost one of her 48 world championship boxing matches. On September 14, she will box for the third time in a show fight against TV presenter Stefan Raab. “Regina Halmich – Back to the Roots” shows the Hall-of-Famer preparing for the duel against Raab in Berlin and traveling with her to her old home in Karlsruhe. There, Halmich shows who shaped her and made her strong: First and foremost her parents and her best friend, hard rock rocker Doro Pesch.
Back in Karlsruhe with old companions
“Back to the Roots” accompanies Regina Halmich to her home town of Karlsruhe. It becomes clear that her parents have always believed in her. Dad Günter still manages the finances today. Her mother helps with the autograph cards, but has never been able to bear to watch her daughter close to the ring out of concern. On the trail of the past, Regina meets her best friend, musician Doro Pesch. Together with her, she visits the DM Arena, where her last professional boxing match took place in 2007. Together they reminisce about this furious final.
The woman who never gives up
Regina Halmich, the pioneer of women’s boxing, is still an exceptional figure 17 years after the official end of her career. She has made a decisive contribution to the success of women in professional boxing in Germany. On September 14, the ambitious fighter wants to give it another go: she will enter the ring to compete against TV presenter Stefan Raab. A gigantic media spectacle. Raab has already fought twice against the Karlsruhe native – and lost. Will she break his nose again this time?
