The WBO has ordered that Oleksandr Usyk must next defend his WBO belt against Joseph Parker. But the Ukrainian is flirting with a fight against IBF champion Daniel Dubois.

Undefeated triple heavyweight champion (WBC, WBO and WBA super) Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 knockouts) faces an important decision. While his team is in talks about a rematch with IBF champion Daniel Dubois, the WBO has officially asked him to make his next mandatory defense against interim titleholder Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs).
Yesterday, Wednesday, the WBO informed Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk (K2 Promotions) and Parker’s promoter Frank Warren(Queensberry Promotions) of the order by e-mail. “Please be advised that the WBO World Championships Committee hereby orders the commencement of negotiations. This order will terminate the WBO Interim World Championships as soon as possible in accordance with our policy of having only one world champion per weight class,” the letter reads. Both parties now have 30 days to agree on a deal. Otherwise, an official purse bid will be scheduled.
Usyk team in talks with Daniel Dubois
However, the situation could become more complicated, as Usyk’s team is already in talks about another duel with Dubois. According to Krassyuk, negotiations for the rematch are already underway, with Wembley Stadium in London being discussed as a possible venue.
Whether Usyk defends his title against Parker or opts for the financially lucrative duel with Dubois remains to be seen. In any case, his next decision will have a decisive influence on the future course of the heavyweight scene.
