British super-middleweight boxer Troy Williamson will have the opportunity to confirm his greatest career success in August. On August 8, the 33-year-old will once again face Callum Simpson at the First Direct Arena in Leeds. The rematch will be hosted by Ben Shalom’s BOXXER promotion and broadcast worldwide on DAZN.

The first meeting between the two was a surprise. Williamson was behind on all three scorecards before he spectacularly knocked Simpson out in the tenth round. This success secured him the British, Commonwealth and European super-middleweight championships. Williamson would actually have had other great options afterwards. Among other things, a possible IBF world championship fight against the current world champion Osleys Iglesias was on the cards. However, Simpson’s team pulled the contractually agreed rematch clause, meaning Williamson had to wait for the rematch.

He is correspondingly motivated for the second duel. “It’s about time they were ready. They made a big mistake by activating the rematch. I’ve beaten Callum Simpson once and I’ll beat him again on August 8th,” Williamson announced confidently. Simpson, meanwhile, has drawn the consequences of his first professional defeat. The 29-year-old is now working with star trainer Rob McCracken and wants to reclaim the titles he lost. “Troy had his night, but now I’m getting back what’s mine. I’m fitter, sharper and more determined than ever,” explained Simpson.

The event also marks an important step for BOXXER. Following the end of its collaboration with Sky Sports, the promotion will increasingly rely on DAZN in future. Promoter Ben Shalom said: “We are delighted to be working with DAZN to bring this event to a global audience. Leeds will provide a great atmosphere on August 8th.”
