Just hours after his parade through Omaha, Nebraska – to celebrate his historic victory over Canelo Álvarez and the title of undisputed super middleweight champion of the world – Terence Crawford (38) was caught up in an unpleasant police stop that now has repercussions.

According to officials, Crawford was stopped by police around 1:30 a.m. for alleged “reckless driving.” When an officer spotted a legal gun in the footwell of Crawford’s driver’s side, all four occupants of the vehicle – including a member of his security team – were taken out of the car with guns drawn. Police later confirmed that all occupants were legally authorized to carry firearms. Crawford himself called for a supervisor and a police lieutenant on duty at the scene.

Omaha Mayor John W. Ewing and Police Chief Todd Schmaderer announced an internal investigation into the incident. Ewing stated, “My heart sank when I learned of this ending to an otherwise wonderful day. We need to make sure that every citizen in Omaha feels safe and respected.” Crawford, who has not yet commented publicly on the incident, was issued a citation for reckless driving.
