In the quarter-finals of the “World Boxing Cup Finals” in Sheffield, England, DBV boxer Magomed Shakhidov celebrated reaching the semi-finals in the 71 kilogram limit. Shakhidov defeated Chia-Wei Kan from Taiwan with 5:0 points. The German Olympic starter was up against a valiant opponent, but Shakhidov dominated most of the fight from the center of the ring and ultimately came out on top.

In contrast, the two German starters in the semi-welterweight category were less successful. First, Assan Hansen lost to Shion Nishiyama (South Korea) in the 63.5 kg limit and was eliminated from the tournament with 0:5 points. Denis Bril also had no luck in the end. In a close fight, the youngster from Cologne lost 1:4 to the Brazilian Breno de Carvalho.

Bril delivers a close battle

The first round went narrowly to the new German champion, while de Carvalho won the second. The right-handed fighter from Salvador, who has already fought several professional fights, also had the upper hand in the all-important third round – although the scoring could have gone the other way. DBV boxer Lüftiye Tutal had already competed on Wednesday, but was defeated in the 66 kg weight class by South Korean Sukypung Kang by RSC.

Putilov and Shakhidov in the ring today

The semi-finals of the “World Boxing Cup Finals” will be held today, Friday, with the finals on Saturday. For DBV ace Nikita Putilov, the World Cup tournament in Sheffield begins today with his semi-final fight against Diego Lenzi (Italy). The German super heavyweight will face the same opponent that Nelvie Tiafack defeated in the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games. Also in action on Friday: Magomed Shakhidov, who wants to prevail in his semi-final against Japan’s Sewonrets Okazawa.

The “World Boxing Cup Finals”, in which over 110 boxers from more than 20 different nations compete, are the highlight of the World Boxing Cup series, which has already been held this year in Sheffield (January), Colorado (April) and Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia). The current tournament in the English metropolis will be broadcast free of charge on the internet. Click here for the livestream of the event.
