Canelo vs. Crawford is off!

The eagerly awaited superfight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will not take place. According to “Ring Magazine”, the duel planned for September at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas has been canceled.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 knockouts), who currently holds the WBA, WBC and WBO super-middleweight titles, was actually due to fight Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 knockouts) in September, who wanted to move up two weight classes for the challenge. The fight would have brought in huge fees for both boxers, as Turki Al-Sheikh would have been involved as an investor.

The cancellation comes just a few days after reports emerged that Canelo could box Jake Paul before the fight against “Bud” in May. This could be the decisive reason for the canceled mega-duel – apparently this was not in the interest of Saudi entertainment minister Turki Al-Sheikh. However, there are still no exact details about the cancellation. For Crawford, it now remains to be seen whether he will continue to seek a chance against the Mexican superstar or concentrate on other fights in the super welterweight division. It also remains to be seen for Canelo whether a potential fight against Jake Paul will actually become a reality.
