Stepping stone or stumbling block? Devin Haney wants to dethrone Brian Norman Jr. in his move up to welterweight and become champion in the third division.

Devin Haney is about to take one of the biggest steps of his career: The two-time world champion is moving up to welterweight for the first time and will face unbeaten WBO champion Brian Norman Jr. on November 22 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The encounter is part of the high-class “Ring IV” card at the ANB Arena.
Brian Norman (28-0, 22 knockouts) is currently regarded as one of the most dangerous punchers in the weight class. Three of his last opponents ended up in hospital after brutal knockouts – clear proof of his punching power. But Haney (32-0, 15 knockouts) is unimpressed. “Brian Norman is just another opponent – another stepping stone,” the 26-year-old told The Ring.
Haney has a lot to prove after his less than spectacular points win over Jose Ramirez in May. Back then he was criticized for his reserved fighting style, but after a year off he was able to gain important ring experience. Now he wants to become world champion in the third limit of his career and finally establish himself as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers.
Norman, on the other hand, wants to seize the opportunity to cement his status as an up-and-coming star and destroy Haney’s perfect record. With his uncompromising style, he could provide the Las Vegas technician with the biggest challenge of his career to date. Whether Haney’s technical skills will be enough against Norman’s raw power remains to be seen in November – the boxing world is looking forward to Riyadh.
