This coming Saturday, two promising young boxers from AGON Sports will be in the ring in Korbach: Assan Hansen (super lightweight) and Malek Semmo (middleweight). It will be Hansen’s third and Semmo’s fourth professional fight – and for both of them the event will also mark the start of the new boxing year. The event is being organized by PSP Boxing and promoter Enrico Schütze in collaboration with Hartmut Berge. The main fight of the evening will be against local hero Mario Jassmann, on whose undercard the two AGON talents want to further distinguish themselves.

Flawless start as a professional

Malek Semmo (21) has made a flawless start to his professional career. The middleweight is correspondingly satisfied with his development so far: “Three professional fights, three wins. The start was exactly how I imagined it would be. I’ve learned to box patiently, to put pressure on myself and to be consistent in my style. The new year is the next logical step forward for me.”

Middleweight is traditionally one of the most physically demanding weight classes. Semmo sees his strengths as clearly defined: “Physique, speed and punch hardness are my greatest strengths. At the same time, I’m working intensively on defense, timing and efficiency to further sharpen my profile.” The 4th professional fight should confirm the path he has taken – without haste, but with a clear focus. “I’m approaching the build-up with focus and without rushing. The long road is part of it, and AGON Sports is the right partner for that. I know that they will give me the time and structure I need to develop sustainably.” For Semmo, the aim in Korbach is to build on his unblemished record and further consolidate his development – both technically and mentally.

Assan Hansen (26) is also starting the new year with a tailwind. The super lightweight rates his development in the professional ranks as very positive, especially since working with coach Franquis Aldama: “I would consider my development in the pros to be very good. I’ve made good progress, also thanks to the support of coach Franquis Aldama. I always needed a coach who suited me. I’ve found someone in Franquis. We may have a language barrier, but we still understand each other and get on really well together.”

“Gaining international experience”

In Korbach, Hansen not only wants to win, but above all to put the new technical content into practice under competitive conditions: “It’s about gaining experience and putting the new technique I’ve learned from my coach into practice in a fight.” The ambitious super lightweight is already thinking ahead in the long term: “I hope to have six or seven fights on my resume by the end of the year. I would also like to fight at AGON events abroad to gain international experience with the pros. I’ve already been able to gain this with the amateurs.”

For both athletes, Korbach is more than just another match. It is the start of a year that should bring the next step in their development. Semmo and Hansen want to further sharpen their profiles with structured development work, targeted training and growing fighting experience.
