David Benavidez makes his cruiserweight debut against world champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez at the T-Mobile Arena – Mexico vs. Mexico on Cinco de Mayo weekend live on Prime Video.

It’s official! Undefeated two-weight world champion David Benavidez and unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez will meet for the first time at a press conference in Las Vegas to officially announce their clash on Cinco de Mayo weekend. The all-Mexican clash will take place on Saturday, May 2, and will headline a PBC Pay-Per-View event on Prime Video from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The event is promoted by Sampson Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions in association with TGB Promotions. Benavidez (31-0, 25 knockouts) makes his debut at cruiserweight after previously winning the WBC light heavyweight world title and defending his belt against Anthony Yarde last November. On that occasion he won by seventh-round TKO and once again underlined his punching power and aggressive pressure game.
Ramirez (48-1, 30 knockouts) secured the WBA cruiserweight title almost two years ago with a win over Arsen Goulamirian. Six months later, he unified the title with that of the WBO when he defeated Chris Billam-Smith by unanimous decision on points. In his last appearance, the 34-year-old Mexican also defeated Cuban Yuniel Dorticos on points last June.
The explosive Mexico vs. Mexico showdown will now take place on May 2 – a high-class cruiserweight title fight that has the potential to develop into a real war on the big stage in Las Vegas.
