A major blow for Fury! Insiders back Joshua

At a press conference for the “Battle of Britain” on December 11, Anthony Joshua revealed that he is in regular contact with Tyson Fury’s uncle, Peter. Peter used to be the “Gypsy King’s” trainer.

On December 11, Anthony Joshua (30-4, 27 KOs) and Tyson Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs) will face off in Cardiff in the long-awaited “Battle of Britain.” The vacant WBA “Super” heavyweight title is on the line at Principality Stadium.

The two rivals faced off yesterday at the first official press conference in West London. There, with much fanfare, they promoted the biggest British boxing match in decades (live on Netflix).

“Peter Fury is ready to help me.”

Joshua delivered a massive surprise in the process. After the 36-year-old former world champion decided to bring former Fury coach Ben Davison into his corner, he dropped another “bombshell” at the event. The Londoner explained that he is in regular contact with Peter Fury, Tyson’s uncle and former trainer. Although the 58-year-old won’t be part of the official coaching staff, he’ll be on hand in an advisory capacity to help “AJ” optimize his preparation. “I talk to Peter Fury,” Joshua confirmed. “He’s willing to help me, too.”

Interesting fact: Peter Fury knows Tyson’s boxing skills inside and out. He coached his nephew for about five years—including in 2015, when Tyson defeated Wladimir Klitschko in Düsseldorf and secured his first world championship titles.

With Davison and Peter Fury, Joshua has two insiders in his coaching staff who are preparing him for the bout against the Gypsy King. However, he says he’s not looking for specific advice on how to beat Fury, “but rather regarding our training, our approach, and how I can tackle the fight.”
