When the Uber Eats Music Hall in Berlin opens its doors on Friday, September 12, a very special evening for boxing is on the program. Two Cuban Olympic heroes, Arlen Lopez and Lazaro Alvarez, will step into the ring. They are names that have been synonymous with top-class boxing, technical brilliance and an unshakeable will to win in the world of boxing for years.

Arlen Lopez, double Olympic champion (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2021) and one of the defining figures of international amateur boxing, meets the experienced Colombian Jairo Delgado (14-3) in his sixth fight as a professional light heavyweight. At stake is an international WBA title. For Lopez, it should be another important step on his way to the top of professional boxing.

The performance of his compatriot Lazaro Alvarez is no less high-caliber. The three-time amateur world champion, who has won bronze at three Olympic Games, is regarded as one of the most stylistically complete boxers of his generation. In Berlin, he will face Angel Rodriguez (23-3) from Venezuela in the lightweight division. Alvarez wants to defend his WBA Continental Americas title.

Cultural exclamation mark

The presence of these two exceptional athletes is a real highlight for German boxing. Cuban boxers have been famous for decades for their exceptional technique and tactical maturity. Hardly any other country has produced so many champions. So it’s no wonder that AGON Sports and promoter Ingo Volckmann have signed the two Olympic heroes. The fact that Lopez and Alvarez are now competing in Berlin is not only a sporting event, but also a cultural exclamation mark: Cuban boxing at the highest level, to be experienced live in the capital.

For spectators, the evening promises to be an experience not to be missed: Two world-class athletes on their way to crowning their brilliant amateur careers with major professional titles. The main fight of the evening will see Berlin’s Hamsat Shadalov boxing for an international WBA title against the equally unbeaten Alex de la Rosa. Shadalov’s training partner and childhood friend Paul Wall will also be taking part. In his first professional title fight, he will step into the ring with Antonio Fechner from Hamburg. Both will be competing for the German Championship of the Bund Deutscher Berufsboxer (BDB).

Tickets for the fight night are available at Ticketmaster.de.
