AGON Sports makes boxing history again! On April 11, the first professional boxing event in Cuba for over 60 years will take place at the renowned 5-star Melia Internacional Hotel in Varadero.

At this historic event, not only the Cuban double Olympic champion Arlen Lopez will face the dangerous Argentinian Martin Ezequiel Bulacio in a high-class fight for the “WBA Continental Latin America” title. Multiple Olympic medal winner Lazaro Alvarez, also from Cuba, will also fight for a WBA lightweight title.

Cuba looks forward to ring hero Lazaro Alvarez

One of the world’s greatest amateur boxers will finally step into the ring as a professional in front of his home crowd. The three-time amateur world champion and three-time Olympic bronze medalist will face the unbeaten Miguel Queliz Santos from the Dominican Republic for the “WBA Continental America” lightweight title. This title fight is an important milestone for Alvarez.

Cuba’s elite: Lazaro Alvarez (l.) won three Olympic bronze medals, three world championship gold medals and two world championship silver medals.

The appearance of Moussa Gholam, who will fight for the “WBA Continental America Gold” title in his first fight for the German boxing team after moving to AGON Sports, should also cause a sensation. Gholam, who was born in Morocco and lives in Spain, is one of the best super featherweights in the world and will face Misael Vasquez, a powerful Dominican who is looking to make a name for himself outside his home country for the first time.

Gholam: “This is the perfect start”

A victory for Gholam could lay the foundation for a world championship fight in the near future. For him, the event in Cuba is not just a very special moment in sporting terms: “Boxing for AGON and fighting for a title straight away – it’s the perfect start. I want to show why I’m one of the best in the world.”

With five WBA title fights, this event promises to write an unforgettable chapter in the history of Cuban boxing. The schedule for the other fights and information on the broadcast will follow in the coming days.
