AGON Sports is once again bringing international class to the ring: several top athletes from the Berlin-based promotion will step into the ring this Friday at the prestigious “KO Drugs” event of the World Boxing Association at the Gimnasio Club Mexico in Santiago de Chile. The event is part of the World Boxing Association’s global anti-drug initiative and has established itself as an important platform for high-class professional boxing.

The focus is on Cuban Olympic champion Erislandy Alvarez, who is looking to extend his unblemished record. The exceptional boxer, unbeaten in six fights, meets Jose Nunez (17-0-2), who is also undefeated and is ranked ahead of him in the BoxRec rankings. Both will be fighting for the WBA Continental Americas super-lightweight title – a landmark duel between two up-and-coming top contenders.

Lazaro Alvarez is also about to take a decisive step towards the top of the world rankings. The three-time amateur world champion and undefeated professional (10-0) will take on the strong Jackson Furtado (12-3). A victory in the fight for the Continental Americas title would pave the way for a world championship eliminator, so the importance of this fight is correspondingly high.

Real endurance tests

Yusnier Sorsano is another Cuban AGON fighter facing a challenging task. In only his third professional fight, he defends his WBA Fedelatin title against the experienced Jonathan Wilson Sanchez (26-8). A real endurance test for the highly talented Cuban, who wants to confirm his rapid rise in the super welterweight division.

The strong AGON line-up is completed by Olympic silver medalist Sofiane Oumiha. The technically adept Frenchman will also be fighting for a title and will face Angel Rodriguez from Venezuela. Oumiha wants to make up for the points defeat in his last fight against world-class fighter Francisco Fonseca.

With this concentrated quality, AGON Sports is once again underlining its claim to specifically guide talented athletes onto the big stage and establish them internationally. The event in Santiago de Chile promises top-class boxing and could be the next decisive step in the careers of several AGON athletes.
