Angelo Peña provided a highlight in international boxing at the Mobiliar Arena in Muri-Gümligen near Bern. The 29-year-old Bernese from the Swiss Pro Boxing boxing stable secured the WBO Intercontinental super featherweight title with a unanimous points victory over Japan’s Hiroki Hanabusa. The judges clearly scored the fight 99:91, 100:90 and 98:92 in favor of the Swiss.

Dominance in the ring from the start

Peña, who had prepared for this decisive fight in the USA, left no doubt from the start as to who was the better boxer. With precise punches and an aggressive approach, he repeatedly put Hanabusa under pressure. The Japanese fighter, who entered the ring with a strong fight record of 13 wins (including 5 by knockout), 2 defeats and 5 draws, found no means of breaking Peña’s dominance. Despite his unbroken fighting spirit and an impressive streak of almost three years without defeat, Hanabusa was clearly beaten in the end.

“I am very happy to have brought the WBO Intercontinental title to Bern,” said Peña after the fight. “This victory is an important step on my way to the WBO world title.” With his tenth win in his tenth fight, the unbeaten Peña remains a serious challenger on the international stage and is now ranked in the top 15 of the WBO world rankings.

Mouafo wins first professional title

Christopher Mouafo from Biel also celebrated a major success. The 28-year-old secured the WBO Global Lightweight title with a unanimous points victory against Jonniel Laurente from the Philippines. Mouafo impressed with his precise technique and fast punch combinations, which he used to put his opponent under pressure time and again. With this triumph, Mouafo celebrated his first professional title and improved his record to 10 victories (including 6 by knockout) with only one defeat.
