Dmitry Bivol makes a successful return after 15 months out of the ring and defends his WBA and IBF world light heavyweight titles against Michael Eifert on points.
Dmitry Bivol celebrated a commanding points victory over Michael Eifert in the UMMC Arena in Ekaterinburg on Saturday evening, successfully defending his WBA and IBF world light heavyweight titles. Bivol (15-1, 12 knockouts) was back in the ring for the first time after a 15-month break and welcomed the IBF mandatory challenger from Magdeburg to his home country. It was also the Russian’s first fight on home soil since his victory over Umar Salamov at the end of 2021.
Eifert (13-2, 5 knockouts) made his first appearance since August 2024 – and the long period of inactivity made itself felt. The German never found his rhythm against the technically superior world champion and was clearly outboxed over the entire distance. The judges scored the fight unanimously 120-107, 120-107 and 120-107 for the champion. Eifert was knocked down midway through the first round after a counter left hook. Although the challenger was quickly back on his feet and only received a count, the knockdown set the tone for the duel early on.
As the fight progressed, Eifert tried to set the tone with unusual attacks and offensive actions, but he was mostly ineffective against one of the best boxers in the world. Bivol demonstrated his outstanding ring intelligence, dodged his opponent’s attacks with smooth evasive movements and regularly landed precise counter-attacks.
As the fight progressed, the title holder increased the pace and controlled the action even more clearly. However, Bivol did not push for an early victory. Instead, he boxed in a disciplined and composed manner until the final bell to secure an unchallenged unanimous points victory over the full twelve rounds.
