Three WBO titles are at stake in Magdeburg. For Fress, it’s about revenge, first place in the rankings and the dream of a world championship fight.
Roman Fress is about to have one of the most important fights of his career. On May 30, the WBO number 1 in the cruiserweight division will once again face Armend Xhoxhaj at Messe Magdeburg. The rematch has enormous significance: for the first time, three WBO titles are at stake – International, Inter-Continental and Europe. The fight is also personally charged for Fress. Xhoxhaj inflicted the only defeat of his professional career to date on the Magdeburg lake stage in 2022. Now the SES cruiserweight wants to take revenge and finally position himself as the mandatory challenger for the new WBO world champion David Benavidez.
At the press conference in the Museum of Cultural History, Fress was extremely confident: “I’m so sure of victory, the conditions have never been so good for me.” The earlier defeat has also been dealt with: “That’s all forgotten now and I have a great opportunity to tackle the long-awaited world championship fight with three titles!” SES promoter Ulf Steinforth is talking about the “most exciting fight of the year” and is expecting a landmark evening for German boxing. In addition to the main fight, Michel Dobler, Denis Radovan, Max Suske and Magdeburg’s Paul Schmidt and Ole Rätzel will also be in the ring. MDR will be broadcasting live from 10.30 pm.
