After defeating Ford, O’Shaquie Foster challenges semi-welter champ Shakur Stevenson to a title defense.
O’Shaquie Foster has successfully defended his WBC super featherweight world title. The champion won a majority decision against Raymond Ford at the Fertitta Center in Houston, Texas, on Saturday evening. At the boxing gala organized by Matchroom, the judges’ scorecards caused some astonishment despite Foster’s clear victory. The official scorecards read 118:110, 116:112 and 114:114.
Foster (25-3, 12 knockouts) thus completed his first title defense since recapturing the WBC belt in the rematch against Robson Conceicao. For Ford (18-2-1, 8 knockouts), on the other hand, a three-fight winning streak came to an end. At the same time, he suffered his second consecutive defeat in a world championship fight.
After the fight, there was a face-off in the ring between Foster and WBC World Super Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson. A duel between the two champions is considered one of the most attractive possible match-ups in the lower weight classes.
Charlie Sheehy shines with a spectacular knockout
On the undercard, Matchroom newcomer Charlie Sheehy (13-0, 8 knockouts) celebrated an impressive early victory in the super lightweight division. He sent Nike Theran (20-3, 14 knockouts) to the floor with an explosive right hand and secured the ninth knockout win of his career.
Olympic bronze medalist Omari Jones (7-0, 4 knockouts) continued his strong start in professional boxing. He dominated the previously unbeaten Diego Zuniga (9-1, 6 knockouts) over the full distance in the super welterweight division and won unanimously on points. All three judges scored the fight 80-71 in favor of Jones.
Featherweight Javon Woodard Jr. (17-2, 15 knockouts) also celebrated an early success. Woodard stopped Miguel Flores (29-6-1, 13 knockouts) by knockout in the eighth round of their ten-round duel.
