Australian former world champion George Kambosos Jr. prevailed in his super lightweight debut against Jake “The Machine” Wyllie, winning unanimously on points. Despite a deep cut injury, Kambosos secured victory at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. After 12 rounds, the official scores were 117-111, 117-111 and 115-113.

Kambosos (22-3, 10 knockouts) moved up to super lightweight for the first time after previously holding the IBF, WBA and WBC world titles at lightweight. He won these with his sensational victory over Teofimo Lopez at the end of 2021, but lost them seven months later to Devin Haney in a fight for the undisputed crown.

After his success, Kambosos issued a challenge to the current IBF World Super Lightweight Champion, Richardson Hitchins. “I want a real man-to-man fight,” explained Kambosos in the post-fight interview. “Hitchins is more of a technician who moves and dodges a lot. I am a warrior. I boxed beautifully in the first five rounds. Now we’re going to get the cut injury treated and then we’ll be ready. Eddie [Hearn], let’s make this fight. I want the best of the best. If Hitchins is your best man, I want him to fight me. End of June? I’m ready!”
