Canelo defends his undisputed title against four-time world champion Terence Crawford on September 12 in Las Vegas.

It’s official: Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez will defend his undisputed world super middleweight championship against pound-for-pound contender Terence “Bud” Crawford on September 12 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The fight was announced immediately after Canelo’s unanimous points victory over William Scull by Turki Alalshikh, the mastermind behind the Riyadh Season.
Cuban challenger Scull was unable to threaten Canelo on fight night, making the Mexican the two-time undisputed super middleweight (168 lbs) world champion. The mega-announcement followed just minutes later: Canelo vs. Crawford – a duel that will electrify boxing fans worldwide.
Crawford takes a historic step! He skips middleweight and moves up two weight classes, from super welterweight (154 lbs) to super middleweight (168 lbs), to compete with the biggest name in modern boxing. The 37-year-old exceptional athlete from Omaha, Nebraska, has already become world champion in four weight classes – from lightweight to super welterweight. He was also the undisputed champion in both the super-lightweight and welterweight divisions – a feat that makes him one of the best boxers of his generation.
Canelo still unbeaten in the super middle!
Crawford was last in the ring in August when he defeated Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles and secured the WBA super welterweight title. Now he wants to catapult himself into the boxing Olympics with a victory over Canelo. Canelo, on the other hand, aged 34, is on a run of six wins since losing to Dmitry Bivol in his foray into light heavyweight. The Mexican remains unbeaten in his traditional weight class. The win over Scull kicked off his new three-fight deal with the Riyadh Season, with the upcoming superfight against Crawford likely to be the highlight.
After the ring faceoff between the two champions in Riyadh, Canelo was respectful:
“I feel great. Crawford is one of the best out there. It’s an honor to share the ring with a fighter of his caliber. Everyone wants to see this fight and His Excellency Turki Alalshikh wants it too – so let’s do it!”
Crawford was also motivated: “I am blessed and feel fantastic. I’m going to show the world what true greatness means. Canelo delivered today, but I’m the best. That’s why everyone will be watching on September 12.” The countdown to the biggest pound-for-pound clash in years is on. Boxing Autumn 2025 promises to be historic.
