Sarah Bormann is the new WBO minimumweight world champion. The 34-year-old from Nidderau triumphed on Saturday at the Ge-Man Fight Night in Karlsruhe. In her fight against Argentinian Jennifer Sabrina Meza, she prevailed confidently on points. With her victory, Bormann was crowned world champion of one of the big four boxing federations for the first time.

Sarah Bormann dominates against Jennifer Meza

Bormann dominated the fight from the start. Her tactical preparation paid off. “Everything went according to plan,” explained the boxer from TG Hanau. She mastered the ten rounds at the Karlsruhe Christmas Circus with strong stamina and hard punches. The judges scored unanimously in Bormann’s favor: 100:90, 99:92 and 97:93, securing her the vacant WBO minimumweight belt.

A milestone for Sarah Bormann

This victory is a special moment in Bormann’s career. “It makes me very proud. I’ve been working towards this for a long time,” she said after the fight. The new title adds to her impressive collection. She was interim IBF and WBC world champion in 2023. Now she has won a “Big Four” title for the first time.

No plans for a duel with Rupprecht

A fight against WBC atomweight world champion Tina Rupprecht is no longer an option for Bormann. “I wanted this fight for four years,” she explained. But the challenge never materialized. Instead, Bormann has other goals: She wants to unify the world championship titles at minimum weight or move up to a higher weight class. After ten weeks of intensive training, Bormann is looking forward to a break. “I’m going to rest and enjoy everything,” she said. She plans to start training again at the beginning of next year.
