Julian Vogel in the ring, plus “100 years of boxing in Aschersleben” – an atmospheric and exciting evening of boxing in this great tradition. On Saturday, September 27, another SES Boxing Gala will take place in Aschersleben in the Ballhaus Arena. In the main fight, local hero and WBO Junior World Champion Julian Vogel from “Team Germany” will defend his belt.
Duel of the undefeated champions
The 22-year-old Julian Vogel (17-0-1, 9 knockouts) from Aschersleben, undefeated WBO junior world champion at half-middleweight, is now making his third title defense in his hometown. This one is particularly explosive. His opponent is Sami Ahmeti (9-0, 5 knockouts), the current WBC Junior World Middleweight Champion, who is also unbeaten. The 21-year-old was able to secure the WBC junior middleweight title at the end of June with a points victory over Colombian Alexander Moreno.
The sound bites from the press conference:
Julian Vogel: “He wants the belt, I want the belt. We are two ambitious athletes who will give everything. I’m really looking forward to boxing at home. We’ll give it our all. It’s about something. As far as I’m concerned, we can start straight away. Whether it’s an advantage that I have the size advantage remains to be seen. Whether it’s big or small, right-handed or normal delivery – it doesn’t matter to me. You have to take your opponents as they come anyway!”
Dirk Dzemski, SES coach: “I was really pleased with Julian’s sparring, especially as he had very strong opponents there. Julian was very diligent in his preparation. I will only be satisfied on Saturday when he has won his fight. We are expecting a very strong opponent.”
Sami Ahmeti: “We’re both fired up and want to win. And I’m sure we have a good plan for it. The preparation for this fight has shown that I can easily go ten rounds or even 16 rounds – maybe it won’t even be ten rounds!”
“Breaking Julian’s plan”
Agron Kurtisi, Ahmeti coach: “I’ve known and coached Sami for a good ten years, so I know what he can do. And we know how to break Julian and Dirk’s tactics or plan!”
Ulf Steinforth, promoter SES Boxing: “So many positive factors are coming together for this SES Boxing Gala: Julian Vogel will defend his WBO title for the third time, again in a home match! I’m hoping for a great fight and the form of the day will decide. I see this duel at 50:50, and the fact that Julian has the fans in Aschersleben behind him is of course a small advantage for him. His opponent Sami Ahmeti is also Junior World Champion in this German ‘Duel of Champions’, so this special pairing speaks for itself in terms of challenge and explosiveness. These two young boxers also stand for the very good development in boxing in Germany!”
“100 years of boxing in Aschersleben – we’re celebrating with you!”
“A special look should be taken at the third professional fight of our heavyweight talent Michel Dobler. Aschersleben has more than earned this further SES event. An always sold-out Ballhaus Arena, a great and knowledgeable audience and always one hundred percent support from the entire city, first and foremost from Lord Mayor Steffen Amme. And this September, we are celebrating ‘100 years of boxing in Aschersleben’, a very special anniversary – and we are very happy to celebrate with them!”
Steffen Amme, Mayor of Aschersleben: “I’m looking forward to the fight night and know that the arena will be a madhouse again. We are all behind Julian! There is also an anniversary to celebrate on Saturday, 100 years of VfB Aschersleben. There’s boxing fever here, everyone is excited!”
The MDR will broadcast this SES boxing gala in the program “Sport im Osten – Boxen live” from Aschersleben from 10.40 pm.
