The second event of the German Boxing Series (GBS ) took place on Saturday at the XPOST in Cologne and offered attractive boxing. Eleven fights provided excitement and emotion, with the duel between Tyron Zeuge and Serhat Parlak taking center stage. With its concept of offering balanced fights without clear favorites, the German Boxing Series continues to establish itself as a fresh source of inspiration for German boxing.

Tyron Zeuge vs. Serhat Parlak: A thrilling main event fight

In the main fight, former WBA world champion Tyron Zeuge faced the up-and-coming Serhat Parlak. Two boxers with completely different careers faced each other in the agreed limit of up to 77.5 kilograms: Zeuge, the experienced veteran, and Parlak, a hungry outsider with a solid amateur history who was only fighting his seventh professional fight. The fight began with a strong performance from Parlak. Thanks to his speed, agility and precise jabs, he controlled the first half of the fight. Zeuge struggled to find his rhythm and kept looking for the decisive move, which often came to nothing.

Witness goes for body shots and turns the fight around

The tide turned from the fifth round onwards. Zeuge increasingly relied on hard body punches, which visibly hurt Parlak. While the Duisburg fighter continued to rely on his strong right hand, Zeuge increasingly dominated the second half of the fight. Both boxers showed great fighting spirit and delivered an open exchange of blows. Particularly in the final rounds, both gave each other nothing and got the spectators off their seats. In the end, the judges decided unanimously 96-94, 97-93 and 98-93 in favor of Zeuge, who claimed his 29th victory in his 32nd professional fight. The verdict was criticized by some observers as Parlak put in a strong performance and many would have given him more rounds. However, Parlak showed greatness by accepting the defeat in a sporting manner and congratulating Zeuge.

German Boxing Series: Excitement through evenly matched fights

In addition to the thrilling main fight with Tyron Zeuge, the German Boxing Series also offered exciting and balanced encounters in the other duels. Alexander Schürhoff impressed in the cruiserweight (up to 90.7 kg) co-main event with a dominant points victory over Denny Heidrich. Leonardo Di Stefano Ruiz narrowly prevailed against Alexander Lorch in the super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) despite a broken hand. Debutant Gregor Soenius impressed in the cruiserweight (up to 90.7 kg) with a technical knockout in the second round against Cihat Bakir. Kevin Kiy also stopped his opponent Marc Lambertz in the super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) in the second round after a furious performance. The tactical fight between Mario Beniesch and Malik Aksakal in the flyweight category (up to 69.2 kg) ended in a draw.

The German Boxing Series has once again shown how exciting boxing can be with fair and balanced pairings. The innovative concept inspired spectators and experts alike. The response after the second event was consistently positive and a continuation seems certain. The German Boxing Series is well on the way to revitalizing boxing in Germany.

Overview of all fights of the second event of the German Boxing Series

This overview shows the results of the high-class fights of the second German Boxing Series in Cologne, including four so-called catchweight fights such as Tyron Zeuge’s fight against Serhat Parlak. Catchweight is an individually agreed weight class that lies outside the regular weight limits of boxing. It is often used when two boxers from different weight classes want to compete against each other without one of them having to gain or lose too much weight. The two parties set a specific limit that is fair for both sides.
