World Boxing Cup: Semi-final exit for Shakhidov and Putilov

For Magomed Shakhidov and Nikita Putilov, the “World Boxing Cup Finals” in Sheffield ended with the semi-finals. This left the five-man DBV relay team without a place in the final.

None of the five starters sent by the German Boxing Association (DBV) to the “World Boxing Cup Finals” (November 27-30) in Sheffield, England, were able to reach the finals on Saturday. While Lüftiye Tutal in the women’s competition and Denis Bril and Assan Hansen in the men’s competition had already been eliminated, Magomed Schachidov (up to 71 kg) and Nikita Putilov (+ 92 kg) had to fight in the semi-finals on Friday.

Shakhidov without luck

Magomed Shakhidov lost the first round in his match against Sevonrets Okazawa, but won the second round. The Japanese fighter also received a point deduction. Although he was the better boxer in the third round, the German half-middleweight was unable to turn the score in his favor. Shakhidov lost on aggregate by 2:3 points and was eliminated from the tournament.

The last fight on the third day of the “World Boxing Cup Finals ” was between Nikita Putilov and Diego Lenzi in the super heavyweight division. The German champion from Leipzig was defeated 0:5 on points. After the Italian Olympic starter had won the first two rounds, Putilov no longer had a chance of progressing.

Flood of gold medals for Brazil

In Saturday’s finals in Sheffield, Brazil emerged as the big winners with four gold medals for Jucielen Cerqueira Romeu (up to 50kg), Luiz Oliveira (57kg), Breno De Carvalho (63.5kg) and Joel Ramos Da Silva (+ 92kg). The only defeat on a triumphant day for the Brazilian team came in the women’s middleweight (75 kg), where Viviani Pereira lost to South Korean Olympian Suyeon Seong.

The next best nation on the final day was England with three wins: Dione Burman (66 kg), Odel Kamara (71 kg) and Dimeji Shittu (80 kg) took gold for the hosts. South Korea secured two places at the top of the podium, while Japan, Taiwan and Mongolia each had one gold medal winner. No medals were awarded in the heavyweight (92 kg) category as the final between Diego Lenzi (Italy) and Joel Ramos da Silva (Brazil) could not take place due to injuries.
