The next World Boxing Congress will be moved from New Delhi (India) to Rome (Italy). This decision is the result of talks between the World Boxing Association and the Boxing Federation of India (BFI). The two federations have mutually agreed on the relocation of the congress. The event will now take place in Rome on November 23, 2025.

Postponement does not affect the World Cup

The Congress includes elections for the President of World Boxing (WB), the Board of Directors and a number of other votes. However, the decision to postpone the meeting has no impact on the upcoming final of the World Boxing Cup. This will be held over five days of competition in New Delhi from November 17-22, 2025.

Mike McAtee, acting WB Secretary General, said: “The World Boxing Congress is one of the most important events on the calendar. Following discussions with the BFI, we have mutually agreed to separate it from the forthcoming Boxing World Cup Final, which will take place around the same time. We would like to thank the Italian Boxing Federation for their offer to host the congress. We are convinced that this will be a fantastic event and a great opportunity for the world boxing family to come together again.”

Logistical factors are decisive

Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, said: “After positive discussions with our colleagues from World Boxing, we have mutually agreed to move the Congress to Italy. The decision was based on logistical factors such as travel arrangements. This will allow all delegates to participate smoothly.” They will continue to work hand in hand on the WB Cup Finals and focus on delivering a first-class event, said the official.

The President of the Italian Boxing Federation, Flavio D’Ambrosi, added: “We are honored that Italy will host such an important event as the first WB Congress after the recognition by the IOC.” The official spoke of a historic and very important moment for the entire Olympic boxing movement. They will work hard and responsibly to ensure that the leadership “that will guide us in the challenge of Los Angeles 2028” is freely elected in Rome.
