Canelo vs. GGG II immortalized: First hand-painted Boxing News cover shows the legendary rematch in Las Vegas.

The rivalry between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is one of the greatest in boxing history. Their second duel on September 15, 2018 in the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, ended with a narrow majority-decision victory for Canelo – and was immortalized not only in sporting terms, but also artistically.
Renowned boxing art collector Ingo Wegerich now presents a special work from his collection: the cover of Boxing News from September 13, 2018 – the first hand-painted cover in the magazine’s 115-year history. Created by artist Richard T. Slone, the acrylic painting shows both fighters in full intensity, with realistic details such as glove marks and Canelo’s new tattoo.
Remarkably, the work was commissioned by Golden Boy Promotions and GGG Promotions and later even signed by both fighters. According to Wegerich, Canelo and Golovkin were so impressed that they reacted with disappointment when they learned that the painting was not for sale.

The 44×44-inch work has already been shown at several exhibitions, most recently at the German Sport & Olympia Museum in Cologne, where it was seen by thousands of visitors. Wegerich describes it as one of his personal favorites from his famous boxing art collection.
