Dmitry Bivol is back in training – with a clear mission: to compete against the best in 2026. The Russian is challenging Benavidez, Beterbiev and Canelo.

Dmitry Bivol doesn’t do things by halves. The unified light heavyweight world champion is on the road to recovery following back surgery – and only has big names in his sights for his comeback in spring 2026. “Dmitry doesn’t want build-up fights,” promoter Eddie Hearn told
Bivol (24-1, 12 knockouts) had won his rematch against Artur Beterbiev in February 2025, establishing himself as the undisputed king of the light heavyweight division. He then relinquished the WBC title to prepare for a possible third fight against Beterbiev. But then came the injury: a slipped disc that forced him to have an operation.
The 34-year-old Russian is considered one of the most complete technicians in professional boxing. Since his triumph over Canelo Alvarez in 2021, Bivol has consistently been one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. In the coming months, he wants to prepare for his return – with a view to possible duels against David Benavidez, Jai Opetaia or even the big rematch against Canelo. “He’s not looking for easy ways,” says Hearn. “He wants the fights that make history.”
