Ennis moves up to semi-middleweight – WBA eliminator against Lima

Jaron “Boots” Ennis (34-0, 30 knockouts) wants to lay the foundation for a successful time at half-middleweight on October 11 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The US star will face reigning IBO champion Uisma Lima (14-1, 10 knockouts) in the WBA final eliminator. The fight will be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN.

Ennis proved his class in April with a dominant victory over Eimantas Stanionis in the welterweight division. After six one-sided rounds, he forced the WBA champion to retire. Now the 27-year-old is moving up to half-middleweight. The US boxer only signed a long-term contract extension with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing in July.

Lima, a 32-year-old Angolan, won the IBO title against Sukhdeep Singh Bhatti in Canada in December and successfully defended it against Shervantaigh Koopman in South Africa in April. The globetrotter is competing in the USA for the first time – directly against one of the most dangerous fighters in the weight class. “These guys can’t hold a candle to me. I want all the big names and belts,” explained Ennis confidently. Lima countered: “Please don’t underestimate me, Boots. I’m coming to win.”

Should Ennis win, a world championship fight for the WBA title awaits him – and the chance to be crowned world champion at the second limit. The WBA super middleweight title is currently held by Terence Crawford.
