Former world champion Julio César Chávez Jr. deported from the USA: Authorities accuse him of making false statements, mafia contacts and arms trafficking.

Former world boxing champion Julio César Chávez Jr. has been deported from the USA to Mexico. According to consistent media reports, the 39-year-old was arrested for allegedly overstaying his US visa and providing false information on a green card application. The US authorities then transferred Chávez to Mexico. There he was taken to a prison in the state of Sonora, as Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed to USA Today.
In addition to the visa violations, the son of boxing legend Julio César Chávez is suspected of having links to organized crime. Possible involvement in arms and explosives trafficking is also being investigated. His lawyer and his family firmly reject the accusations.
Chávez was WBC middleweight world champion in 2011 and was long regarded as one of the most dazzling, but also most controversial figures in boxing. Just a few weeks ago, he took part in a show fight against influencer Jake Paul. Shortly after the event, he was arrested by the US immigration authorities ICE.
