AGON half-middleweight Paul Wall fights for a WBA title tonight in Argentina against Colombian Placido Ramirez.
While AGON Sports super featherweight Moussa Gholam fights a WBA World Championship eliminator at Casino Buenos Aires on Saturday night, his stablemate Paul Wall fights for his first international title tonight. The Berlin half-middleweight (10 wins) faces the biggest challenge of his career so far when he meets the experienced Colombian Placido Ramirez (28 wins, 6 losses). At stake is the “WBA Continental Latin America Gold” title. For the unbeaten Berliner, it is the chance to position himself in the international rankings for the first time.
Experienced opponent
Ramirez is an experienced opponent who has already been in the ring with renowned names in international boxing, including the current IBF world champion at half-middleweight, Josh Kelly. The Colombian’s experience makes the title fight a real test for Wall.
For optimal preparation, the Berliner traveled to Los Angeles for four weeks to the legendary Wild Card Boxing Gym. At the gym run by hall-of-fame trainer Freddie Roach, Wall gained new impressions and completed intensive sparring sessions with various partners. The super welterweight then put the finishing touches to his training at the AGON Gym in Berlin before the team left for Argentina.
Preparation in Los Angeles
“The preparation went very well. I prepared for four weeks in L.A. at the Wild Card Gym and sparred with lots of people. We completed the final phase in Berlin. We’ve now been in Buenos Aires since last weekend. My opponent is a very experienced man with a lot of professional fights under his belt. He will be the biggest test for me, but that’s exactly what I’m looking forward to. I want to show that I’m ready and win the title,” explains Wall confidently.
Promoter Ingo Volckmann also sees great potential: “Paul Wall impressed us right from the start in sparring. If he delivers again in his title fight, he can be recommended for a top 15 place in the world association rankings.”
